Sterling Needs A Home

Update: Sterling found a home with a lovely family, as a present to an 8 year old girl turning 9. All she wanted for her birthday was a cat. This family last had a cat for 16 years, so we knew they were in it for the long haul. I’m glad Sterling was able to find a happy stable home with no other cats! 🙂

Okay, to all you cat lovers out there, it’s time for me to tell you a little story.

Sterling is a one year old male cat. Over a year ago, my sister took in a pregnant cat, Lily (not knowing she was pregnant). Well, she found out soon enough and it gave birth to 5 cute kittens. My sister found homes for all the kittens, but she couldn’t afford to get Lily fixed. Somehow Lily got outside one day and got pregnant again!!!

Sterling and his siblings were born.

My sister had given away all of Sterling’s siblings, but everyone loved Sterling, so they kept him. But it turned out she couldn’t have 3 cats (because she already had others). I decided to take one for the team, because I already knew Sterling was a good cat from when I had gone over there and interacted with him, so I didn’t think it would be a problem at all. Sterling is such a sweetie.

Well, I brought him home and it turns out he’s not good with other cats. He dominates my other two cats and just wants to pounce on them any chance he gets. I thought it would change over time, but nothing has changed. He still wants to attack my other two cats all the time. Luckily, my other cats go outside all day long, but at night we have to separate them because they are traumatized by Sterling’s attack motives.

So, even though I adore Sterling and I love to cuddle with this little cuddle bug lap cat, I have to do what is best for the greater good, and make my home peaceful again. If for nothing else than to give my other two cats a stable home where they won’t be attacked in their sleep.

I’ve come to realize that Sterling basically just needs to be in a home where there aren’t any other cats. Because when it’s just him and people, he’s absolutely adorable! He’s calm and he’s a very good cat. It’s just that having other cats around rials him up.

Sterling loves to play and he’s still kind of like a kitten. He is litter box trained, and my husband and I are even halfway through toilet training him, because quite frankly we hate the litter box, lol! Sterling is very smart and I think we might be able to finish toilet training him soon.

We got Sterling neutered, and we got him all his shots, and he doesn’t have fleas, so he’s ready to go to someone else’s nice home at any point. We just don’t know of anyone who wants a cat (or who can take on more pets, because quite frankly everyone I know has their fair share of animals).

So we’ve put him up on Craigslist to see if there are any takers. We’re giving away this awesome cat for free, and we’re also giving a 16 lb bag of food, 25 lb bag of litter, a brand new litter box, his favorite cat nip toy, and a cat carrier to whoever can take Sterling. There’s even a lifetime warranty for Sterling. So if it turns out you end up not being able to care for Sterling, you can bring him back to our house! Sterling is such a good cat and should never end up in a shelter. That is what we’re trying to avoid.

So come rescue Sterling (or please rescue my cats from Sterling). Sterling is super friendly to people, adults and children alike, so as long as you don’t have other cats, he’ll be the perfect pet! I’m not sure how he is with dogs though…
