What’s in It and What Did I Do?

Week 32 is a simple catch up week. Sometimes you get behind on all your tasks and you need a week to just do the bare minimum and get caught up on everything that needs to be done daily. So I give a little checklist of all the things that should be done almost daily and it’s scheduled in to catch up on stuff you’ve been slacking on.

Let’s face it. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you what to so. That’s what Blog and Retire is for. If you’ve already signed up for week one, then it’s now time for you to continue on into week 2. Click here and subscribe to the rest of the course.

Since Week 32 is catch up week, I’ve been just doing the bare minimum on my house blog as well… And when have I not been doing the bare minimum on the house blog? I really am not proud about how little work I’ve done on the case study blog, but it just goes to show that it’s really not that complicated to build a successful blog. I can’t imagine how far my blog would be by now if I actually put more work into it.

What I would like to start doing soon (when I finally decide to make it a priority) is contact companies who may want to advertise on the house blog. I don’t like to make promises I can’t keep, but maybe that’s what it will take to get my butt into gear on this one. So I think right now, I’m going to vow (and hopefully keep that vow) to contact 9 companies to advertise on my house blog. I will complete this task before next Thursday so I can update you about it on the next case study blog update. I already have one advertiser on the house blog, and in the course, I suggest to contact 10 minus the amount of advertisers you already have on your blog each week.

Why haven’t I been doing this yet? Blog and Retire Week 30 talks about getting proactive by contacting potential advertisers, and now I’m through with Week 32.

Because like I said before, I just haven’t made it a priority. I can be an example to you all. If you don’t do the work, you’re not going to reap the rewards. If I don’t ask people for money (AKA give them ad space on my blog in exchange for dollars) I’m not going to make any money. It’s as simple as that.

If you want something, you have to do the proper tasks in order to make it happen. If you want to accomplish a goal, you have to make it a priority, otherwise it will not happen for you.

Want More Pagviews or Comments?

On to the title of this post. What else have I been up to? I told you earlier that I was holding a giveaway on the house blog in June. The person who got the most points through commenting, and following a couple other small rules, would win a $50 giftcard of their choice.

The Results of My Giveaway

I had my biggest comment day with 51 comments on June 30th (which was the last day to comment in order for comments to count toward the contest).

I received 189 total comments in June, as compared to May, I received only 92. So my comments more than doubled in June, and for that I can only give credit to the Giveaway I was hosting.

I’m also fairly certain that my blog’s pageviews would have almost died without the giveaway this past month. June 29th and June 30th held my highest pageview days in the entire month (and almost in the house blog’s entire history). I got 1797 pageviews on June 29th, and 1639 pageviews on June 30th.

So if you want more pageviews, comments, followers, or likes on Facebook, host a giveaway on your blog. I gave away a $50 giftcard, but it can be anything. It needs to be something that people will actually work for, but it doesn’t have to be money. I can be something you make. It can be a free service of something that you offer. Something of value that you can give to your blog readers/potential customers. And if you have the people who enter your contest spread the word for you, it also gives you more exposure, and possible links back to your blog for more SEO.
